Valuations

As Members of the National Association of Jewellers, and the Institute of Registered Valuers, we are uniquely placed to offer a personal, and thorough valuation service.

Much time is spent each year by our Registered Valuer keeping abreast of current technologies and developments in the jewellery trade to ensure we can offer the best service possible. She also holds full qualifications in Diamond grading, and is a Fellow of the Gemmological association of Great Britain.

We can offer all types of valuations for your precious possessions, and we reccomend you have your jewellery valuations checked every 3 years to ensure they are up to date. When you bring your items in to us, we take the utmost care with them, and the following procedure is followed:

1. We book your items in, log them onto our computers along with a photographic record of the items and all of it features. We give you a full schedule of items left with us which acts as your receipt.

2. We clean the items and check them over to ensure the safety of settings. We often find when we undertake this work that claws holding diamonds in can be dangerously thin, rings can have other elements of wear that can compromise their durability, and we can advise of any remedial work required. It is much better to retip the claws holding a diamond in before it falls out!

3. Our registered valuer completes the valuation as required. For almost all types of valuations, we produce a full booklet which fully describes the items, has clear phototgraphs and up to date prices. It also explains the various factors which can affect the price. We give you 2 copies of this booklet, one fo yourselves and one for the 3rd party, i.e. your insurers or the solicitors in the event of probate.

4. When all is completed, we will arrange a time for you to collect your items, where we will go through the document with you and answer any further questions you may have.

Whilst your goods are with us on the premises, they are securely kept in our safe whilst not being worked upon, and we are fully insured.

We do not believe in charging a percentage fee like most, as it can encourage overvaluation of items. We have a flat fee of £59.00 for the first item, and £15.00 for each item thereafter. Sometimes for lower value items we will group items to reduce the charges where we can, we can discuss all this with you. Please get in touch with us for any further information, or to book your items in.
